Flooded Fields - Inoculation is Key

Inoculation is vital to ensure good nodulation for maximizing nitrogen fixation and high yields.

Rhizobium bacteria used by legume plants are aerobic micro-organisms, meaning that they need oxygen to survive. If a soil is completely shut off from available oxygen for an extended period of time during flooding (2-3 days), the rhizobium populations within that soil will die off very rapidly.

Inoculate with Exceed® Brand Inoculant products in 2022 to give your new crop the best environment for producing strong plants with superior nodulation, ultimately producing higher yields.

Always inoculate if fields affected by the following conditions:

Flooded fields

Drought affected fields

Virgin soils

Soils extremely high or low, in pH levels (Above 7.8 or below 5.5.)

Low organic matter

Long rotations

High soil temperatures

Sandy soils

Soils that have fumigated

CRP land

Consider double-inoculation in fields that have been flooded, apply both a liquid inoculant to the seed as well as applying an in-furrow inoculant at planting. This will provide the young plant an active environment with strong nitrogen-fixing bacteria that will benefit the important early stages of growth.
